John Scott Cobb was born in Colchester and from a young age pursued an active career in music, enrolling at the Royal Hospital School Holbrook (Suffolk) at the age of 13 as an organ scholar.
As an accomplished organist, pianist and choral singer at Holbrook, he graduated his music degree with Honours and has since pursued a career as a composer and musical director.

John was the arranger and musical director for ‘Let’s Heat it up!’ a contemporary musical by Tony Franchi set at the Headgate Theatre in Colchester, Essex, in the Summer of 2008, to local critical acclaim.

He worked on another joint project with the librettist Peter Green. "The Royal Informer". A comedy musical about Henry the VIII; which was performed at the Tudor Rooms at the Old Ship Hotel for the Brighton Festival in May 2010.

He has composed a vast range music, including commissions for ensembles including The Angell Trio, The Kingfisher Quartet and The Gemini Quintet. In June/July 2010 John conducted Clacton Concert Orchestra in a performance of his Piano Concero in Am- in memory of his highly esteemed piano and organ teacher Alison Baker, who passed away a couple of years ago at the young age of 45, pianist Francis Garland was the soloist.

John has also composed a breadth of sacred choral music for his A-Capella Choir: Colchester Compline Choral Society, which won the Ted Hughes Trophy for best vocal ensemble at the Colchester Institute in March 2007.

He is currently composing a new musical ,to be performed in Brighton for Summer 2011, which he also wrote the libretto for.
